EDGEWATER TRIANGLE NEIGHBORS ASSOCIATION
MONTHLY MINUTES
January 10, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 7:08 p.m. There were 34 people in attendance.
Alderman Smith Presentation: Alderman Smith addressed the members with updates on a number of topics.
- Hollywood Pantry liquor license: Would probably be approved unless the community actively opposes it.
- Intersection of Wayne and Ridge will be redesigned after fire station closes.
- Gate is being installed to block alley on west side of Pierce school.
- Scientific Cleaning building is still not being developed.
- Gilly's is operating without a business license and required inspections. She is trying to have it closed.
- The Alderman said she had three themes for the ward: safety, education and economic development.
- Crime cameras going up in various intersections, Senn interior and exterior, and at red line stations.
- Hoping to get a Nookies for Bryn Mawr.
- Looking to open Metra station at Rosehill and Ravenswood with the help of Harry Osterman.
- The problem of seniors being evicted is also a concern of hers. Many seniors are having their rents raised and cannot afford to stay and cannot afford to move and end up being evicted.
She took three questions from the members regarding park maintenance, greenspace and Garden of Gethsemene. On the issue of park maintenance she said that most of the local parks are supposed to be community gardens and that the public was supposed to help with upkeep. She acknowledged there is a problem with condo conversion buildings cutting down trees and paving backyards for parking. She asked for three volunteers to meet with her in March to address Gethsemane problems. The volunteers are (or were) Mari Colello, Rosa Hamilton and Joe Teller.
The minutes of the December meeting were unanimously approved.
Treasurer's report: $366.60 on hand.
Joe Teller gave an update on the three aldermanic candidates being removed from the ballot for technicalities.
Discussion of 15 minute standing zone for 5732 N. Glenwood: Discussion tabled until next meeting when building owner (John Supera) will be invited to speak. Tom Samuels will also be invited.
Announcement: ECC is looking for a new executive director.
Update: As noted in the October and November minutes Pat Daly had informed the block club that he will have the roof on his long term Clark project by December "weather permitting". This was the warmest and driest December in recorded history and the roof is still not on the building.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Mark Ross
